THE SIMPLICITY OF A POINT & SHOOT

As someone who uses manual cameras for work, shooting with a 35mm point-and-shoot for fun feels like a breath of fresh air. While manual cameras offer precision and control, they also require a level of concentration that can sometimes take away from the spontaneity and joy of photography. That’s why I love grabbing my vintage Canon Sure Shot Auto Focus (AF35M) when I want to unwind and simply enjoy the moment.

This camera, with its compact design and simple controls, lets me focus on the experience rather than technical settings. It’s incredibly freeing—just point, shoot, and see what magic unfolds. The 38mm f/2.8 lens captures sharp images, and the built-in autofocus ensures I don’t miss a moment. This camera is fast, fun, and reliable, perfect for casual outings or when I want to capture candid moments without fuss.

But what truly makes these photos special is the Arista EDU Ultra 200 black and white film I use with it. There’s something so timeless about black and white film—it strips away distractions and highlights the textures, contrasts, and emotions of a scene. Paired with my Canon Sure Shot, the grain and tonality of Arista's film bring out a beautiful, nostalgic quality in every shot. The soft grain, the way the light hits, the pure simplicity—it’s the kind of beauty that doesn’t need perfection, just a good moment and a camera that’s ready to capture it.

For me, the point-and-shoot brings back the joy of photography. It’s fun, easy, and when I see those beautifully rendered black and white prints, it reminds me why I fell in love with film in the first place.
